So after more than 5 years of running my computer with absolutely no virus protection whatsoever, and absolutely no problems whatsoever, I finally got what I can only assume is a root-kit or three so deeply embedded that weeks of labor and seeking advice failed to do anything and I was faced with either paying big money or reformatting. So, if I was gonna have to spend money, I figured what the hell - time to get off of 32-bit XP and step up to 64-bit Win7. So I got on TigerDirect, and NewEgg, and Google Shopping, and CNET, and all the rest and found deals on the right components, including what CNET editors rated the fastest CPU presently on the market for home use.

WOW.

I've been on this new system for about a week and a half:

Intel i320 2.66GHz QUADcore on a GIGAbyte motherboard
8 GB Ram (I do Photoshop stuff for the band)
320 GB Primary HDD (SATA)
1 TB DATA HDD (SATA)
256-bit, 1GB Radeon Vid card.

The sound quality delivered from the motherboard is absolutely as good or better than any sound card I've ever owned. And I was able to hook up both my 1TB and 500GB external HDDs via an eSATA connection (FAST!).

The BEST thing about this system is not how BLAZING fast it is. Not how many GREAT ideas they finally built into Win7 (almost making me a fan of Bill Gates like I was back in the days of Windows 3.1). What's great is that I now can stream audio SEAMLESSLY via Airport Express to my home stereo WHILE WATCHING a video and editing a Photoshop or Word or some other kind of doc. The BEST thing about this system is the power conservation ability and the speed of restart.

When I walk away from my computer, in 10 minutes it is completely powered off. And when I walk back in an hour or a day later, all I need do is tap the space bar and IN EIGHT SECONDS I am on the internet, checking email, etc.

EIGHT SECONDS. Amazing. This should GREATlY impact my electric bill in addition to the overall experience.

Just had to share. For as much time as I spend in front of this monitor, I'm amazed I waited so long to enhance the experience significantly.
