The lineup for Bear Creek 2010 is just amazing! I do however have a "negative" comment. Smile It is really hard for me to understand how Dumpstaphunk is at the top of the list of bands. Now I have seen these guys many times over the years and I know they are excellent musicians and all. And I am happy for them to be a headliner at BC. Heres the thing though, these guys play the same songs over and over and over. At BC a couple years ago they even played at least one song twice over the weekend. Ya you know the one, "put it in the dumpsta" I was embarrassed for them, really. It was very cool to see Mr trucks jam with these guys the last couple of years and that mixed things up a bit. I guess what Im trying to say here is there is some ass kissing going on here for these guys to be at the top of the list. I'm ready for you guys to start hating on me for saying this, but I bet I'm not the only one that feels this way. Maybe just the only one that will type it out in the forum. It really doesnt matter what band is at the top of the list, I know this. And for the record I have had a great time at all the Dumpstaphunk shows Ive been to, so dont misunderstand me. I have nothing against the boys from New Orleans. Let the hating begin. Smile

Love,

Me

turtleman, you failed to point out that half the songs they play are not their own...NOLA favorites...kindof like Galactic for their first 5 years or so..and Galactic is one of my favorite live acts going right now..
either way I love a dumpstaphunk show! extremely talented group of funksters..and the way I look at BC, almost everyone on the lineup each year is of "headliner" caliber in this genre....its just a listing of bands on an internet site, i've always thought it should be done in alphabetical order, that way after phish you have polyester pimpstrap, etc...

Dumpsta is:

a) not the headliner, as the current announcement is only an initial list and Paul mentioned that "We will be announcing at least 4 new headliners and a few other new bands. As the festival is still 10 months out, we have plenty of time to diversify."
b) Dumpsta gets a high spot on that list because that whole band will be spending the weekend in the park, playing in all sorts of configurations and sitting in with everybody.
c) Dumpsta Jam baby whoa. dude.

On the subject of Dumpstaphunk...

I think they are a great band, although I pretty much only see them once a year as it tends to be basically the same show. I love all of the sit-ins and collaborations they are a part of at BC (especially the Sunday night treehouse superjam last year), but during at least one of their scheduled sets the last two years, I've taken the opportunity to go see something else entirely... and was NOT disappointed. I think that speaks volumes about the depth (and overall quality) of the BC lineup year after year.

I'm always open to hear new things. How about a link or two to one of your recent/better shows (preferably SBD).

turtleman and everyone else. You guys are looking at it the wrong way. Dupsta is not a Headliner, they are the house band. Ever been to a Bear Creek when they didn't play?

Ivan is the Grand Marshall of this funky party. He plays a bigger part in the fest then you guys know. 6 stages and 5 organs. Guess who they belong to? Ivan and Trevor Brooks (his ex road manager and tech).

The headliners are still in the works. This is still Jamuary and the fest is in November. Get your early bird ticket and just trust Paul. He will bring it just like he always has.

Bob

I most definately agree with you on the fact that they are the house band. I will admit I probably shouldnt have even said anything in the first place, it just crossed my mind and I thought I would speak it. I dont want anyone to think these guys arent badass, because they are. I was blown away by them the first time I saw them at DOTF 2. I look forward to BC and seeing everyone there. BC is one of the best music festivals around and the sosmp is the best place to hold a fest. The lineups are always amazing, thanks Paul and everyone else involved in making this fest happen. Peace Y'all!!!

I am bummed out that I didn't make it to the Dumpsta in Seattle last Saturday. It was Ian's b-day and when they called the girls up onto the stage (like they always do), apparently badkitty was leading the way. From what I heard she proceeded to melt Ian's face off as well as many other faces in the crowd that night. WTF? It sounded like an epic badkitty sighting. Hopefully I will be able to help drag her to bear creek this year so we can have a go at recreating the moment.
