As much as I've always wanted to see the Biscuits at SOSMP, the combination of price ($185 including fees at this point), timing/weather, and lackluster lineup (for my tastes) makes it hard for me to justify going to Blackwater. You all know that I'm a HUGE Bear Creek supporter, but this event is NO substitute for bringing the Disco Biscuits to the real party IMHO. Nothing is set in stone yet... just saying that I'm leaning very hard in another direction. |
I would really like to see Holy Ghost and Chromeo, but I was thinking it would be great to go to Blackwater Thursday/Friday and Atl Sat/Sunday...how about those apples?
are their day passes, 2 day passes?
After bitching this much about get tDB to Suwannee, I'm surprised their aren't more fans on this board supporting this festival. |
Two one day passes and a hotel? _________________

I hear you, T. Blackwater > ATL would be ideal, but I have yet to come up with a way to make it happen that isn't prohibitively expensive. You either have to pay $185 for the weekend pass, or buy day passes and get a hotel near Suwannee for two nights PLUS gas/tix/etc to Atlanta as well.
I know that (around here at least) I've probably been one of the loudest advocates for getting the Disco Biscuits to play SOSMP. It's true that I've wanted to see them play in the amphitheater there as long as I've been aware of the two... but to be perfectly honest, this is not at all what I had in mind. Bear Creek has been such a great and diverse event over the years... OF COURSE, I'd like to see another one of my favorite bands be a part of it. Who wouldn't? Blackwater, on the other hand, is NO Bear Creek. The weather will be brutal, the tickets cost much more, and the lineup is significantly weaker. _________________

Let me chime in on a couple things here. First, if you have day tickets, you can park at your car or in your truck in the day lot. Hotels are a cheap option and very close( 4 miles). A hotel shuttle could be arranged if enough folks want to participate.
I thought I'd address the heat issue, as well. Yes, it will be really hot at Blackwater. But do me a favor and remind me of what summer festivals and outdoor concerts are not silly hot. Bonnaroo-over 90, Waka-over 90, Floydfest-over 90, Summercamp-over 90, Phish in Atl.-over 90. I can go on and on. ( Obviously there has been some more pleasant weather at plenty of shows) At least at Blackwater we have the river to swim and cool off in, the restaurant and music hall to cool off in, the swimming pool, music under the shade until 6PM and 100% shaded tree camping. The Music Park is better equip for hot temperatures than almost any other venue. |

You're just asking for trouble with this post. You should have left it at what Brad said. It's going to be brutal. All of the fests you mention are not in FL. FL heat is not like other states. The closest thing you mention is ATL Phish and they were just shows, not s fest. As this is FL, you need to also be ready for the afternoon rain. It's going to happen. Be ready to be hot as hell and then get rained on.

| I disagree with you 100% Bob. I was at most of the shows I mentioned, were you? Those places have zero shade to enjoy, no river, no pool. It is hot and humid all over the country. I travel way more than you and I promise that it is tough all over. And as far as the Phish shows, kids were raging the lot as soon as it opened, in full direct sunlight all day. It was like a festival. |

Roo @ 90+ degrees with 90,000+ people and not a tree in sight is one of the most miserable heats I've ever felt, regardless of latitude. Yes, Blackwater is going to be hot, but Paul is right about about Suwannee being better equipped to handle a hot festival. There's relief 'o plenty all around. I don't know about ya'll, but I'm gonna be too busy listening to the bands bringing the heat to complain about the temperature. _________________

The weather is relatively low on my list of reasons here. Camp Bisco was brutally hot during the days and it rained heavily 2 out of 3 nights. Yes, it will be hot and humid at Blackwater, but the shade and music hall help to mitigate that to a large extent.
My reasoning has a lot more to do with the music. I would love to catch all of Thursday night and even moreso the Biscuits set in the amphitheatre Friday, but besides that, there are only a few other acts I'd care to see. For my money, it just doesn't seem worth it.
No disrespect intended here, Paul. You're so good about communicating with us here that I feel like a dick for complaining so publicly. This board is just the best way for me to have this discussion with my funknfriends. _________________

| No worries about that. Your comments are constructive and don't offend me in the least. We understand that there is something special happening in Atlanta that weekend and that many folks will stop in at Blackwater for a day or two before heading up that way. I hope that you will join us at Blackwater but, if not, I hope that you have a great weekend anyways. Your support for Bear Creek and music in Florida will never be questioned. |

From what I can tell, the only stage that will have shade is the Amphitheater. Unless you are planting trees in the Meadow and in front of the Porch before the fest. Also, Waka has swimming holes, waterfall....... I Guess they were hard to find from the backstage area.
Brad, I don't think they have any music going in the music hall.

Okay Bob, you got me. I know how much you enjoy being right. So yes, the Amphitheater Stage is shaded but The Porch Stage is not. There will be a couple of 45 minute shows on the Porch Stage before 6PM in the sunshine, so technically I was wrong. The Meadow Stage starts at 6PM, as I said previously.
The river at Waka is a 45 minute hike each way and not exactly accessible to everyone.
The Music Hall and restauarant will be open for food, drink and air conditioning. |

wow, i can't see why anyone would complain about this lineup...yes, i could care less about the "headliners" each night but the late sets at the ampitheatre are great each night...
on friday, you can fill a day with Cope, Toubab Krewe, G Love, Rebelution, Boombox, and Thomas Wynn is a great musiciain...then Saturday u get Zach D, the Lee Boys, Particle, Mofro, and then Galactic...i never see all of the bands on a given lineup, so having solid bands all day with a break in the evening works out anyway for the campsite beer hour that always happens...
the first b-roo was completely brutal, the humidity in TN in June is just as bad as FL... |

I can't wait to sweat my ass off with my friends while gettin' down to some sick ridiculous bands. Hell, Erin and I already decided we're giving the Tribe and tDB another chance to make us understand what all you weirdos have been telling us for so long.
$185 for a weekend pass may seem pricy, but something tells me that this one will be worth it. Have faith. Paul and the crew have yet to let us down. _________________ I like to picture Jesus as a mischievous badger |
