I am not a huge fan of Bonnaroo, but they are doing something really cool this year (maybe it was done in the past, I don't know)...they are webcasting some performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday on AT&T's blue room. Check it out. It includes performances by moe., Oysterhead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Buddy Guy, Ben Folds and many more. Should be pretty cool. I'll be watching.

Nice!
Now.. hmm.. can I beat the I-4 traffic hoMe from work in time to catch a little of the Oysterhead set before moe.?
I woUld have loved to be able to go to the 'Roo this year, if for no other reaSon than because Oysterhead was playing. But alas, thIs unexpeCted apartment thing ensured that there would be no 'Roo for me.

I am watching Ben Folds live from Bonnaroo in my air conditioned office. I didn't have to travel 1300 miles to sweat my ass of in Tennessee either. What an amazing world we live in!
This is so freaking cool! So many sets to see this weekend. I'll be locked in my apartment watching set after set after set. The stream is great. The audio cuts out here and there, but otherwise it's very clear for a live stream. Technology has come a long way. |

Watching Ben Folds is making me happy that I am not in the heat. Believe it or not, the only thing that makes me forget the heat is dancing my ass off! sweating anyway... but standing there, I am always aware of how hot it is. moving like a noodle I never even realize how hot it is or how much I am sweating. _________________ a reservoir of energy |

| That set was great. gonna be even nicer to cheeck out some Oysterhead pre-moe. this evening. Wish I could somehow record this. I'm sure there is a way, but I am not nearly technologically savvy enough to figure it out. I'm heading to fetch the kiddos. Four hours 'til the doors open and we get some moe.! |

i'm sitting here enjoying the remainder of the oysterhead set....absolutely freakin sick...trey with his antlers jammin w/elvis claypool and his steel rod...awesome, this was the set that i wanted to go to bonnaroo and see...definitely worth saving the money this year, look at the crowd, true overdosing cypress hill/radiohead fans with miscellaneous wooks...excellent
on a different note, i just put in magnolia festival into pollstar and came up with the beginning of the lineup:
Rogers, Sipe, and Herring- New Riders of the Purple Sage-BGUG-Duhks-Sam Bush-DAVID GRISMAN QUINTET, i repeat the DAVID GRISMAN QUINTET- |

| Oysterhead is amazing. I'm going to head out and buy tickets to Les Claypool for when he comes to HOB in July. |

So someone had to stay home from moe last night to review the Bonaroo webcast for you....
So I rigged my computer into my living room TV and stereo and.....
I deeply regret tuning in late and missing Ben Folds.
Steel Pulse was Steel Pulse. Seen em once.....
Devendra Barnhat - I had never even heard of this band. I took one look at them and felt like I was looking at a Rolling Stone cover from 1971. And surprisingly, the music had the same feel. I was a little worried at first thinking it would be some kind of wankfest given the three guitar players on stage but they were definitely on the mellow side for me. I kept having one band name pop into my head over and over again during their performance. The Jefferson Airplane. This guy has the sweet voice of a young Jorma and the guitar soundscape was late 60's pyschedlia all the way. Just take a listen to the song "Today" by The Jefferson Airplane on their first album and then listen to Devendra Barnhat. They did something cool. The cynic in me knows that a fan was planted in the front row since this was Bonarroo and they didn't wanna take "too much" of a chance. But apparently at their shows they allow a singer/songwriter (guitar player) to step up on stage, grab a guitar, and sing one of their tunes. The kid they pulled on stage actually pulled it off with a war-protest song sung in an early Bob Dylan style.
Oysterhead. My oh my but was Trey in exceptionally POOR voice yesterday! I was embarrassed for him while he was singing. He would have been advised to skip the lyrics all together. The antler guitar is just stupid - he'd have you think all those fx are coming from the antlers.... notice that little magic box next to him? Les was Les - his mic should have been louder in the mix. This might not be the most popular thing to say but I think Stuart Copeland is who makes Oysterhead the band that it is. Yes, Les and Trey are each special. But Stuart makes that BAND special.
Bright Eyes? WTF? That is what makes it at Bonaroo these days? I enjoyed some of his lyrics. But musically it's a freakin joke. I sat down at my piano to prove a theory. Like 4 out of 5 songs were not only the same key, they were the same chords in an almost identical structure. Lame. And even some of his lyrics are just about going to the 7-11. The one tune he did with Gillian Welch was great. The tune they did when they brought out some of Death Cab for Cutie was lame.
Tom Petty - Exactly what I expected: 3 minute songs we all know from the radio in rapid fire succession. Until he said, in what I thought was an obvious attempt to curry favor with the audience, "we're gonna play a song we just like to jam on." The song they "jammed" (Melinda) was nothing more than an opportunity for him to go backstage and rehearse the next set of vocals with Stevie Nicks while the kybd player (great kybd player) did an extended solo. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are a good band but they do not know how to "jam." And Stevie Nicks.... for a vocalist with decades of experience you'd think she'd know how to keep her mouth in the sweet spot in front of that mic.
A big WTF? to the people in charge of streaming this webcast!! At first I thought that maybe it was a glitch in the streaming or my computer behaving funny. But every so often, the audio would cut out. And it always cut out while there seemed to be some interesting lyrics going on. I didn't fully realize that the webcast was being CENSORED FOR CONTENT until Tom Petty sang for the third time, and had censored for the third time, "Let's get to the point, Let's (dead air) and turn the radio on...." Like that song hasn't been played on the radio to death?!??! I can't help but think this all had something to do with.... "Hey Wakarusa Policeman..."

Wow Dale...and I thought I didn't like Bonnaroo.
Earlier in the day, they weren't editing content, it was just cutting out. The Ben Folds set cut out every ten seconds and it definitely was not due to the lyrics. They may have started dooing that later. I can't understand what the point of the would have been. I think they'd get in more trouble for airing the fucks and shits and sexual content of some of the songs rather than the roll another joint line. They also had the banner above the live feed that stated you had to listen at your own risk since it was a live broadcast.
My friend Bob and I were ecstatic when we were sitting in my dining room watching Oysterhead live from Bonnaroo. I agree with Trey's voice, he sounded like a wounded duck...but the Matterhorn is one of the most entertaining things and I love to see him play it, even if it is just for show. I agree with your statement about Stuart Copeland...I love Trey and Les and what they bring to this band, but Stuart really adds a dimension that would be missing if they had any other drummer IMO. Oyster head was the one thing that made me actually consider going to 'roo, but of course, it's too much $$$ and it's too freaking hot. Seeing them during the day would have really pissed me off if I had spent the money.
I caught some of the first set they aired...Andrew Bird. Has anyone seen him before or is anyone familiar with his music? The guy looked spun out of his head and the usic was really odd at times...but it was like a train wreck...I couldn't stop watching it. He plays violin and guitar and he uses a lot of effects. Interesting to say the least and IMO worth checking out if for no other reason than I'd like to hear someone else's take on it.
Erin shut off the feed before Oysterhead had finished. Tat was okay, because we saw some band called moe. last night. They were okay All I can say is High and Low followed by Bear Song for the encore. Holy Jebus. |

Last night Trey, Mike & the Duo played at Bonnaroo. It's going to be on the webcast tonight!! Apparently Phil sat in for a bit too. Wish I could have been there.
Just what I need to get pumped for July 15th in Atlanta. _________________
